A little of our History

Trevor and Cheryl Howard started AJCM in 1991. Originally from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands of England, Cheryl has worked as a teacher in nursery and special education and Trevor in computers. They both had a keen interest in missionary work which led to them training at Moorlands College for 3 years before working as missionaries in the city of Kobe from 1987.

On returning to England, in 1990, they became aware of increasing numbers of Japanese people living in the UK and saw the potential for a ministry among them. With some knowledge of the Japanese language and culture they began working with the Japanese community in the Manchester area by providing support for Japanese children in English schools. They also started an English Bible class for Japanese housewives at their home in Stockport. Since then the ministry has developed in different ways to meet the changing needs of the Japanese community.
