Anglo-Japanese Christian Ministries (AJCM) is a Christian organisation, which
was started for the purpose of sharing the good news about Jesus Christ with
Japanese people living in the UK. In addition to teaching the Christian faith
AJCM is involved in helping and advising Japanese people who are visiting or
living in the UK. Although AJCM is a Christian organisation it's activities and
services are intended for all Japanese people regardless of their own religious
persuasions.
Founders
Trevor and Cheryl Howard started AJCM in 1991. Originally from Wolverhampton in
the West Midlands of England, Cheryl has worked as a teacher in nursery and special
education and Trevor in computers. They both had a keen interest in missionary
work which led to them training at Moorlands College for 3 years before working as
missionaries in the city of Kobe from 1987.
Trevor & Cheryl Howard
On returning to England in 1990 they became aware of increasing numbers of
Japanese people living in the UK and saw the potential for a ministry among them.
With some knowledge of the Japanese language and culture they began working with
the Japanese community in the Manchester area by providing support for Japanese
children in English schools. They also started an English Bible class for Japanese
housewives at their home in Stockport. Since then the ministry has developed in
different ways to meet the changing needs of the Japanese community.
AJCM is a non-profit making organisation, which was registered as a charitable
trust in the UK in 1992. The trust is managed by a group of Trustees and it is
supported financially by donations from individuals and churches in Japan and
the UK who are sympathetic with our aims.
